Quality Assurance Mechanisms in the United States: from There to Where,

The purpose of this paper is threefold to place recent developments in quality assurance in the United States in an historical perspective to describe ongoing quality assurance programs and analyze their potential for actually improving quality of medical care and thereby the health of the American people and to indicate those areas in which continuing research on both the methods of quality assessment and on the actual level of care rendered must proceed.
