TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) Communications in Europe.

Abstract:

In March and April 1975, a TDMA communications system distributed data during the E-3A demonstrations for senior NATO staff. Aircraft, boat, ship, and ground station position and status information were exchanged among the British LINESMAN, West German 412L, French STRIDA II, NATO NADGE and SHAPE, and the US 407L, HAWK and NTDS systems, with the proven benefits of TDMA information distribution. The TDMA network provided line-of-sight radio-range in excess of 350 miles, extended through an airborne relay, to link participating defense elements during all demonstrations. At the terminals less than 10 of the messages were received in error. System availability during the missions exceeded 99. In the report, the scenarios and interfaces used are outlined. The demonstrated operational capabilities, high registration accuracies, and low-error-rate net performance are presented.
