Occupational Analysis of Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard Nurses.

The purpose of this study was to complete an occupational analysis comparing active duty and Reserve Forces nurses to provide insight into future nurse requirements. This is one of a series of reports concerning the Air Forces health care delivery system and marked the initial application of job inventory methodology to non-active duty forces. A sample of 452 Air Force Reserve nurses, 160 Air National Guard nurses, and 1,332 randomly selected active duty nurses was used for the analysis. The data were analyzed by use of the Comprehensive Occupational Data Analysis Program CODAP. Comparative evaluations of job content for the three nursing groups were performed, and job types identified based on the occupational analysis. This data should assist in identifying work areas in which these forces can be optimally utilized without additional training, and areas requiring remedial training if called to active duty.
