Abstract:

The design, implementation, and evaluation of an adaptive scheduling algorithm for the MUNIX operating system is reported here. MUNIX, a multiprocessing version of UNIX, was designed to run on a dual PDP 1145 multiprocessor system. Topics covered include a survey of adaptive scheduling, laboratory equipment configuration, scheduling with MUNIX, benchmark testing, and non-adaptive scheduling changes.
