Abstract:

The problem of viscid-inviscid interaction associated with separated flows within the transonic flow regime is examined. A flow model is developed to account for this interaction for a transonic flow past a backstep. By specifying an unknown discrete parameter which essentially describes the equivalent inviscid flow geometry within the separated flow region, the corresponding inviscid flow field is established through numerical relaxative calculations of the full potential equation. It has been found in the subsequent viscous flow calculations that the point of reattachment behaves as a saddle point singularity for the system of equation for the viscous flow within the recompression region which, in turn, provides a discriminating condition for the determination of the discrete parameter.
