Abstract:

The Harry Diamond Laboratories has been concerned with the establishment of reliable and cost-effective vibration-test techniques that are applicable to Army production and qualification testing. To further this goal, use was made of a new test method in which a digital mini-computer with associated peripherals assumes direct and full control of sinusoidal vibration testing. Replacing conventional analog test techniques, the digital method upgrades test reliability and performance and reduces operating cost by reducing total test time. These potential benefits made it attractive for the Harry Diamond Laboratories to undertake an effort concerned with the technical applications, and procedures related to the new test control method. Also presented in this report are procedures for the implementation of direct- digital-computer control to Army sinusoidal vibration testing as well as the basic requirements for the applicable test equipment.
