Abstract:

The program represents an update of the Fleet Numerical Weather Central Numerical Search and Rescue planning model NSAR. The program is based upon synoptic surface current and wind analyses and forecasts made twice daily at FNWC. The computed drift is the resultant of current and leeway components acting upon the object in question. The most frequent application is for search planning for persons or crafts in distress however, predicting the movement of sonobuoys is another possible use.
