The Cross-Cultural Interaction Inventory: Development of Overseas Criterion Measures and Items That Differentiate Between Successful and Unsuccessful Adjusters

The purpose of this research was to develop an instrument which could be used to supplement procedures for screening and selecting personnel for overseas assignment. A Biographical, Interest, Attitude Inventory BIAI was constructed and administered with the Strong Vocational Interest Blank SVIB to Navy personnel stationed in Japan. Results of concurrent validation analyses indicated that 1 selected items differentiated with high accuracy between successful and unsuccessful overseas adjustment, 2 attitude items were more useful in differentiating between successful and unsuccessful adjustment than the biographical and interest type items, and 3 items in the SVIB, as a whole, did not differentiate between successful and unsuccessful adjustment. The 38 BIAI items which differentiated with high accuracy between successful and unsuccessful adjusters in Japan were incorporated into a predictor instrument called the Cross-Cultural Interaction Inventory CCII.
