Radiation Effects in Fiber Optic Waveguides.
Abstract:
A comprehensive review is presented on the effects of ionizing radiation on the performance of fiber optic cables, and on the materials used for fabrication of optical fibers. This includes a summary of the permanent and transient radiation-induced losses in optical transmission of state of the art fibers, a detailed discussion of the mechanisms responsible for the losses observed, and a report on inhouse materials development to achieve radiation hardened fiber optic glasses.
