Some Principles of Information Strategy: A Corbettian Approach in Today's Security Environment
Abstract:
The United States lacks a national-level information strategy. This paper examines an approach to developing a model for a national information strategy based on the theories and principles of Sir Julian Corbett. This examination focuses on Corbetts emphasis on the importance of theoretical underpinnings for strategy by proposing new definitions for information, knowledge, and data. It also highlights Corbetts relevance because of the many parallels between the maritime and information environments. Lastly, the paper applies Corbetts tenets of sea control within the information environment to derive a recommended model for a national information strategy.
