GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE: Monopoly-Like Status Contributes to Inefficiency and Ineffectiveness
Abstract:
From Census forms to top secret manuals, the federal government spends over a billion dollars a year on the printed word. The Government Printing Office GPO, an agency in the legislative branch, is responsible for most federal government printing. As part of its oversight responsibilities, the Joint Committee on Printing asked GAO to review GPOs operations-in particular, its production, procurement, and customer service activities.
