A Pilot Study of Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta (REBOA) in a Pediatric Swine (Sus scrofa) Model
Abstract:
We hypothesized that Resuscitative Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta REBOA would be possible in pediatric animals and that those that underwent REBOA would have decreased blood loss and longer survival times than control animals. Anesthetized and instrumented pediatric swine received either complete zone 1 REBOA n6 using a 5F Fogarty embolectomy balloon for 30 minutes, or no treatment n5 following liver injury and 5 minutes of free bleeding. Physiologic data were collected until the end of the experiment and tissues were examined.
