Abstract:

This fourth volume in the history of the Navy at China Lake is a must-read for Navy military and civilian leadership today. The Station Comes of Age examines the years between 1959 and 1967, a critical era in the China Lake story. Interestingly, this timeframe is also pivotal in our nations history, encompassing the Cold War, the space race, and the Vietnam conflict. This fourth volume of our history meets the high standards established in the first three, and it candidly captures China Lakes contributions to this interval in history. Of equal importance is Cliff Lawsons portrayal of the significance of the Navys in-house research, development, test, and evaluation capabilities in the transition and fielding of new, innovative weapons and technology.
