Abstract:

The U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development, and Engineering Center NSRDEC is taking a comprehensive approach to optimizing and enhancing Soldier readiness across cognitive, physical, social, and emotional CPSE domains. Relatively little is known about the social and emotional SE components of Soldier readiness in comparison to the cognitive and physical CP domains. In addition, there is not an integrated approach to investigate how CPSE domains interact and influence performance. From January to May 2016, the research team conducted three qualitative studies with Soldiers including platoon, squad, and team leaders from the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC. The purpose of these studies was to better understand what the Army can do to help Soldiers prepare and build their SE readiness pre-deployment, sustain their readiness throughout a deployment, and restore it post-deployment.
