Abstract:

This thesis examines current metrics used by a Marines Aviation Logistics Squadron MALS and how a MALS can be measured for overall performance in regard to supporting flight-line squadrons. Currently used primary metrics are analyzed for their ability to reflect the level of support a MALS provides, the behavior that those metrics incentivize, metrics that should be adopted, and how standardized metrics can be used to compare performance between various MALS. Supply shelf items with a critically low physical buffer status, supply chain response time, and supply effectiveness for high-priority parts are found to be the best metrics for overall performance measurement. These metrics, when measured specifically according to the various typemodelseries of aircraft a MALS supports, constitute a performance measurement system that can be used by aviation logistics leaders to compare various MALS.
