Abstract:

The Nigerian military performs police duties whenever internal security crises escalate beyond the capabilities of the Nigerian police and this brings it in frequent contact with the civil populace, and this results in incessant allegations of human rights abuses. The effort Nigerian military leadership at stemming this trend has not yielded the desired outcome, and human rights organizations continue to publish reports of human rights violation against Nigeria military.
