Abstract:

The CVN 78 Gerald R. Ford Class Nuclear Aircraft Carrier CVN 78 is the planned successor to the NIMITZ-class CVN 68 aircraft carrier. The CVN 78 mission is to provide credible, sustainable, independent forward presence during peacetime without access to land bases operate as the cornerstone of a joint andor allied maritime expeditionary force in response to crisis and carry the war to the enemy through joint multi-mission offensive operations by a being able to operate andsupport aircraft in attacks on enemy forces ashore, afloat, or submerged independent of forward-based land facilities, b protecting friendly forces from enemy attack through the establishment and maintenance of battle space dominance independent of forward-based land facilities, and c engaging in sustained operations in support of the United States and its allies independent of forward-based land facilities.
