Abstract:

This report describes the results of a study and an experimental investigation to compare and determine the feasibility of three methods to measure the diameter and depth of the primer pocket of brass cartridge cases. The three methods covered in this study are Electro-optical Eddy current and Air gauging. Based upon the conclusions of the study the electro-optical approach is recommended for both depth and diameter measurements. The primary advantages are simplicity, dependability and lower cost of inspection wheel, instrument equipment, maintenance, mechanical design and construction.
