Basic Circuit Modules.
Abstract:
The Basic Circuit Modules program Phase I consists of a study effort which will produce a Design plan for the design of a modular, universal, EMI measurement system to cover the frequency range from 30 Hz to 40 GHz. This report represents the results of the final quarter of the Phase I program. A review of the first three quarters of the program is given as background information. The first three quarters of the program have resulted in the development of a complete set of specifications for the system, block diagrams and analysis for local oscillators, tuners, IF amplifiers and detector and measurement functions. Preliminary packaging and hardware evaluation of critical components has also been accomplished. The information in this report describes the development of the remaining modules needed to make up the complete measurement system. These modules include, RF attenuator and calibration source modules, display, power supply and control system modules. Further studies are also described in connection with the local oscillator module with a discussion of a direct frequency synthesizer and phase-locked loop control of an octave band voltage controlled oscillator. Final packaging information is included along with a description of the implementation of two special measurement functions, an amplitude distribution measurement and a true RMS measurement technique. Hardware evaluation of a YIG-tuned harmonic generator and a wide range 1-12 GHz mixer-preamp are also described. Author
