Response of Rabbits Challenged with Aerosols of Venezuelan Equine Encephalomyelitis Virus.
Abstract:
The ability of aerosols of the Trinidad strain of Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis virus to induce clinical and lethal responses in New Zealand White rabbits was demonstrated. With few exceptions, the majority of rabbit deaths occurred on days 3 and 4 after challenge from inhaled doses calculated to range from 3 to 22,000 MICLD50, and animal mortalities were predictable on the basis of elevated temperatures, depressed white blood cell counts, and or viremia.
