Effect of Missile Nose Length and Shape on Fin Effectiveness,
Abstract:
A wind tunnel investigation of the effect of missile nose length and shape on fin aerodynamics was conducted using four nose configurations in combination with five fin configurations. The distance between the nose and the fins was varied by using two body spacers. Total model length varied from 8.5 to 13.5 calibers. The tests were conducted at Mach numbers from 1.75 to 4.5 at an angle of attack range of -4 to 16 degrees. The effects of nose length and shape on missile normal force, center of pressure, and axial force are shown. Author
