Conductive, Lusterless Coatings for Light Metals.
Abstract:
Four proposed coating systems were examined to select the best candidate for a lusterless, conductive coating on light metals. A system consisting of 0.8 mil of Watts-type nickel and 0.8 mil of porous nickel complied successfully with all the requirements listed in the Technical Guidelines. Gloss index values before and after 100 cycles of abrasion, contact resistance and corrosion resistance were better than the specified limits. Porosity in the second layer was induced by adding colloidal graphite to the plating bath. This porosity reduced reflectance to a lower level than that obtained with porefree nickel deposits.
