Abstract:

Service Test of the Battlefield Illumination System was conducted to determine the suitability of the Battlefield Illumination System for US Army use in a variety of test conditions under simulated field and tactical use. USAIB concludes that the Battlefield Illumination System Flare, Surface, Parachute, XM183 is capable of providing sufficient illumination to detect targets at a range of 200 meters is simple to maintain, emplace, and operate and is portable.
