Investigations of Elasticity and Strength of Ceramics Subjected to Tensile and Compressive Loads
Abstract:
A new method of compressive testing of ceramics was perfected, and the average ultimate compressive strength of A1-995 alumina was determined. Compressive prestressing was found to have no significant effect on the ultimate tensile strength. Compressive and tensile moduli and Poissons ratios were measured. A theoretical analysis and experimental study were made of the effect of out-of-roundness on the nominal tensile strength of internally pressurized cylindrical test specimens. Author, modified-PL.
