A history is given of the development of aircraft design, engineering, testing, and methods of prototype production and final mass production. The time period covered begins in 1939 to 1967 and specific emphasis is given to the development of high speed aircraft, including fighter aircraft as well as high altitude aircraft-rocket prototypes designed for experimentation in simulated space flight maneuvers.
