Silicon Integrated Circuits for Airborne and Portable Radars.
Abstract:
The application of silicon integrated circuits to drivers for microwave latching ferrite phase shifters is being evaluated. A survey is being performed of characteristics of driver circuits in current use. A monolithic integrated circuit has been designed to provide a maximum drive current of 25 amperes for 3 microseconds at 28 volt supply. In a discrete component breadboard of this circuit utilizing low voltage integrated circuit transistor arrays, operation was simulated up to 12 amperes drive current. The operation was limited by the low supply voltage required by the discrete components. Monolithic chips have been fabricated and the circuit is being evaluated. A hybrid package for mounting of the chips and output capacitors has also been fabricated during this period. Further testing of the monolithic circuit will determine whether the analytical design criteria can be met. Author
