Comet Tails and Solar Corpuscular Rays.

reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: AD0842970 | Need Help?

Abstract:

Long comet tails consisting of ions CO etc. frequently show accelerations of the tail elements which exceed the gravitational acceleration of the sun 0.6 cmsec. sq. in the vicinity of the earth by factors on the order of 10 to several thousand. Such high accelerations cannot be due to the pressure of the suns rays on the molecules. The concept that these accelerations are produced by the corpuscular radiation of the sun is explained.
