Abstract:

Out of the total number of 1,880 cultures obtained from patients with a clinical diagnosis of trichophytium, microspora, favus, epidermophytium, and onychomycosis, and out of 824 positive cultures obtained during the period from 1 June 1954 to 30 August 1964, there were obtained in eight cases two dermatophytes from each patient, in six cases Trichophyton verrucosum - faviforme and Trichophyton mentagrophytes var. gypseum, in one case Trich. Veruc. and Trichophyton epidermophyton rubrum, and in one case Trich. mentagrophytes var. gypseum, and Trich. rubrum. In all cases where the culture was questionable the cultivated result was checked by transferring the inoculation on pure Sabouraoud glucose agar, or on Sabouraouds peptonic conservation soil. In two cases of mixed mycotic infection Trich. mentagrophytes gypseum and Trich. verrucosum both dermatophytes were cultured in the same test tube, in four cases in different test tubes, but in the same inoculation series.
