THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF HELIUM-PERMEATED STYROFOAM,

reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: AD0832274 | Need Help?

Abstract:

Styrofoam 22 is to be used as a jettisonable insulation for the Model 55 fuel tank. Early in the countdown the space between the insulation and tank is occupied by air, while later it is purged with helium. This report describes tests performed to determine whether the thermal conductivity of styrofoam is changed as the atmosphere to which it is exposed is changed from air nitrogen to helium, because of helium permeation. No change in conductivity was detected. Author
