Abstract:

Tests were made to determine Poissons ratio for cold worked 301 and 301N stainless steel of .016 gage thickness at -320F and 600F. Poissons ratio is essentially constant, within the proportional limit, for the cold worked stainless steels, both in the longitudinal and transverse direction. Stressing the material in the transverse direction of rolling yields a higher Poissons ratio than for the stainless steel stressed longitudinal to the direction of rolling. At -320F and 600F, there is no significant difference in Poissons ratio due to the degree of cold work. Author
