Abstract:

A confirmatory test was performed on the radar chronograph set, M36, from September 1966 through August 1967 at Aberdeen Proving Ground to determine, in conjunction with the concurrent product improvement test, if the chronography of Code A meets the requirements of the confirmatory test plan. The chronogrpahs were subjected to laboratory, environmental, and firing accuracy tests. All test requirements were met except for 14 shortcomings which were not corrected during the test. A significant area of consistent failure which was corrected on retest items during the test occurred to the counter, frequency divider, and amplifier module of the digital-display indicator. It is concluded that, with exception of the 14 uncorrected shortcomings, the test item met the test requirements. It is recommended that chronographs of Code A manufacturer be retrofitted with corrections and documentation revisions, and with corrections to as many as practicable of the uncorrected shortcomings. It is also recommended that at least two of the retrofitted Code A sets be submitted to USATECOM for laboratory and firing-accuracy tests. Author
