PACKAGEABLE HIGH EXPANSION RATIO NOZZLES FOR SOLID PROPELLANT ROCKET MOTOR. VOLUME I.
Abstract:
The purpose of this program is to develop and demonstrate practical, usable, packageable exit cones which can be stored for extended periods, be deployed reliably, and be easily scaled for direct application to future high-performance solid rocket systems which include thrust vector control. This program is to be accomplished by the completion of the following four major tasks 1 Skybolt exit cone packaging and deployment bench tests, 2 design analysis and supporting laboratory tests, 3 subscale Genie tests, and 4 demonstration Skybolt tests. This report covers the work done on Task I and Task II. Under these tasks an elastomeric Airmat exit cone was designed, fabricated and bench tested, establishing the validity of the deployment, deflection and vibration analyses. A columbium C-103 metallic exit cone designed to translate and expand under propellant gas pressure was fabricated. The bench testing was not completed in time for this report. A mechanically supported elastomeric exit cone was designed and fabricated but was not bench tested in time for this report.
