BROADBAND HIGH BURNOUT SOLID STATE INTEGRATED X-BAND LIMITER AND BALANCED MIXER.
Abstract:
A broadband C - X-band integrated Schottky diode balanced mixer and varactor limiter is being developed. Work is proceeding to improve the bandwidth and noise figure characteristics of the integrated mixer, particularly on the high frequency end, and the match and loss characteristics of the varactor limiter. When both are integrated into the single circuit they will be capable of withstanding peak powers of 500 watts and have a noise figure of 7.5 db with a 1.5 db IF. Bandwidth of this limiter mixer circuit will be 4 - 11 GHz. Several broadband hybrids for the mixer were fabricated in C-band and the problem of increasing the bandwidth of both the hybrid and the matching structure to the mixer diodes was invested analytically. Considerable progress was made in reducing the problem of the high-frequency insertion loss in the limiter. The power-handling capability of the limiter appears to be adequate. Author
