THE DIGITAL COMPUTER PROGRAM AMUSIM: AN ANALYSIS OF THE DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE OF AN ASTRONAUT MANEUVERING SYSTEM.
Abstract:
The performance of an astronaut maneuvering system AMS, an astronaut in a pressure suit, wearing an astronaut maneuvering unit and other equipment which incorporates a control moment gyro astronaut maneuvering unit AMU is simulated by a digital computer program. Three modes of operation permit specification of 1 angular or linear displacements and rates, 2 AMU control inputs versus time, or 3 external forces and torques versus time. Variations of 36 variables with time are computed and plotted, including gimbal movements, AMS rotations and translations, thrust and moment vectors, and fuel expenditures. The inertial properties of the AMS are computed from a digital computer program which contains options of using programmed or input specifications for 1 astronaut measurements and weight, 2 pressure suit, 3 astronaut body positions, 4 AMU, and 5 miscellaneous additional equipment. Both programs are appended. Author
