INVESTIGATIONS OF BROADBAND FERROMAGNETIC POWER LIMITERS AND EXPANDERS AS DUPLEXING ELEMENTS FOR MICROWAVE SYSTEMS.
Abstract:
The dispersion relationships for both the lowest order surface magnetostatic mode in a square YIG rod and the dipolar mode in a dielectric rod were calculated. It is possible to choose the dimensions of the YIG rod and the dielectric rod such that the two modes become degenerate over a range of frequency that is suitable for S-band limiter application. Furthermore, it is possible to match the transverse field configuration of these two modes. A wideband coupling from electromagnetic wave into surface magnetostatic wave can be realized, provided the coupling coefficient between the modes is frequency independent. Coupling between dielectric mode and surface magnetostatic mode was observed, in a transmission type experiment, by placing a cylindrical YIG rod between two identical SrTiO2 resonators. The coupling is strong in a narrow frequency band, due to the characteristics of the dielectric resonator. However, the experiment does confirm the possibility of exciting the lowest order surface magnetostatic mode by dielectric mode. Author
