Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine residues of termite control insecticides aldrin and dieldrin. Samples of soils, water, plants, fish, and algae were obtained for residue analysis by means of electron capture gas chromatography and thin layer chromatography. There was no direct relationship between levels of aldrin and those of dieldrin the epoxide of aldrin in a given soil sample. When the residue levels of aldrin, as well as dieldrin, were compared between upper and lower soil profiles, no definite leaching gradient could be observed. It is necessary that soil samples be obtained from greater depths to provide a better evaluation of leaching.
