Abstract:

An engineering test of the CC-CP arc welding machine was conducted at Yuma Proving Ground, Yuma, Arizona, from 4 June to 30 December 1965 to determine whether the welder met the technical characteristics in the desert environment. Limited welding tests, cooling, fuel vapor handling, mobility, and desert environmental tests were conducted. Cooling characteristics of the engine did not meet the required performance standards. There was evidence of fuel vapor handling problems in the engine fuel system. Welding of ferrous metals by the manual method was satisfactory. Transportation by means of a trailer was satisfactory. It was recommended that manuals and cables be included with the unit when delivered, that the engine cooling and fuel vapor handling problems be corrected, and that the unit be submitted for a check test in the desert envrionment.
