Fire Extinguishing Effectiveness of a Synthetic Surfactant Foam.
Abstract:
The report covers a number of tests undertaken to evaluate the relative effectiveness of one synthetic surfactant foam concentrate, as compared to protein foam concentrate, for tanker applications. These tests included both JP-4 and JP-5 fuels. A preliminary evaluation of mobile, medium expansion 1001 applicators was undertaken to determine their potential usefulness for tanker firefighting. The synthetic surfactant concentrate proved markedly superior to protein concentrate, particularly a higher rates of application per unit area greater than 0.10 gpmsq ft. At their present stage of development the hand-held medium expansion foam generators tested have very limited, if any, usefulness in combatting deck fires aboard tankers. Modified author abstract
