Abstract:

A method for the determination of true molecular solubility of hydrocarbons in water was developed. The method, based on the principle of osmotic pressure, was capable of measuring true soluble hydrocarbon concentration in the presence of dispersed hydrocarbon in water. The method was applied to the determination of the molecular solubility of Navy oils in water. The solubility was found to be dependent on the water-to-oil ratio, and the rate of dissolution was a function of agitation of the water-oil mixture. Author
