Abstract:

The radiofrequency nurse-call system Medicall was designed to enable litter patients on multimission aircraft to signal an aeromedical crewmember for assistance. The system is inexpensive, portable, quiet, easily installed, and simple to operate. It does not interfere with other electronic or electrical systems aboard the aircraft nor require installing a wiring harness. When a patient pushes the button on the transmitter, a signal lamp on the receiver lights up to show that help is needed, and a light on the transmitter shows which patient has called for help. Operational tests of four prototype systems and laboratory environmental tests indicated the system performed satisfactorily and in compliance with military standards. Military Airlift Command medical personnel recommended the system be standardized for routine use in Air Force aeromedical airlift missions. Modified author abstract
