Abstract:

Modifications to three test procedures for the determination of free available chlorine FAC have been attempted andor evaluated. The three test procedures, selected as the result of previous studies, were the N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine DPD, the stabilized neutral orthotolidine SNORT procedure, and the syringaldazine liquid procedure. The syringaldazine liquid procedure was modified to produce a test FACTS which is accurate, precise and specific in the determination of FAC. This study showed that the FACTS procedure is not subject to interference from any of the common interferences in other FAC methods is accurate and precise for determination of FAC can be developed as a field test kit and can be employed to determine combined available chlorine.
