Abstract:

The essay examines the problem of proper training of combat service support elements of the Army Reserve. The conclusions reached are that there has been a shortage of appropriate documents, regulations and guidance for these units, the assistance in the form of Active Army personnel has been less than top-notch, and the commanders of these units have been hampered in their efforts toward creative approaches to the solution of their training requirements. The recommended solutions to the problem include preparation of appropriate documents of regulation and guidance written with the needs and capabilities of Reserve Forces in mind. In addition, we propose that selection processes for Active Army personnel assigned to civilian component tours with CSS elements of the Army Reserve be revamped to insure that only the highest quality personnel be assigned to these vitally important duties.
