Validation Test of Indicator, Temperature, Refrigerated Products, Field (832.49.052).
Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to conduct a validation test on a temperature indicator designed primarily for use in shipping whole blood. The indicator was developed by Artech Corporation, 2816 Fallfax Drive, Falls Church, Virginia 22042. Type A and B temperature indicators were activated in 5C temperature and attached to blood bags filled with 512.5 ml of water. A constant temperature water bath provided the testing medium. The temperature was monitored by a Yellow Springs scanning tele-thermometer. Results show that type A indicator, designed to indicate in the range of 8-13C rendered an efficiency of 37. The type B indicator, designed to indicate in the temperature range of 10-15C, was 22 efficient. In the hands of the contractor they were 98 reliable. Further work is necessary to determine the reason for the discrepancy. Author
