On Certain Effects Accompanying the Action of a Focused Q-Switched Laser Pulse on Steel (O Nekotorykh Effektakh, Soprovozhdayushchikh Vozdeistvie Sfokusirovannogo Impulsa Lazera s Modulirovannoi Dobrotnostyu na Stali),
Abstract:
The effects of hardening of steel under the action of a focused Q-switched laser pulse with intensity 10 to the 11th power Wsquared cm. are examined. The effect of hardening at a depth of approximately 10 micrometers observed in application of the laser pulse to KhVG chrome-tungsten-manganese steel is explained by displacement of the zone of thermal saturation from the surface after termination of a pulse with duration of approximately 10 ns. The possible increase in the zone of thermal hardening with a further increase in radiation intensity is discussed. Modified author abstract
