A Review of Transverse and Axial Laser Modes,

reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: AD0775794 | Need Help?

Abstract:

The resonant cavity is the prime factor affecting a lasers mode structure. Within the cavity, two types of oscillation can occur - transverse and axial. The axial modes directly affect the degree of monochromaticity, whereas the transverse modes principally affect the beam divergence, spot size, and maximum power density. Both types of modes are considered here. The relationship of resonant frequencies of the laser cavity to axial and transverse modes is explained. Author
