Effects of Shock Loading on Young's Modulus of Low Carbon Steel 1018.
Abstract:
Changes in Youngs modulus of fully annealed low carbon steel 1018 due to shock loading at 104 kbars and 304 kbars and the effects of subsequent low temperature isothermal annealing of the shock-loaded specimens are measured. The range of annealing temperature is 54C to 69C. Activation energies of point defects and average dislocation densities in the shock-loaded specimens are determined experimentally. An interpretation of the experimental results principally based on Motts defective modulus theory and the interactions of point defects with dislocations and grain boundaries is presented. Author
