High Stability Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator Study.
Abstract:
The feasibility of a 5 pp 10 to the 8th power, high stability temperature compensated crystal oscillator HSTCXO was shown previously on USAEC contract no DAAB07-71-C-0136. The objective of this study is to maintain or improve the previous performance characteristics while reducing package size from 6.5 to 2.0 cubic inches. Studies pertinent to the practicality of volume production and use in tactical equipments are to be conducted, including thermally induced hysteresis, thermal transient behavior, frequency aging, and methods of reducing compensation cost. Study results to date indicate the size reduction is feasible mechanically. Certain degrees of thermal compromise are necessary as size shrinks, however, and the level of electricalthermal performance will not be known until models are constructed and tested during the next period. Aging performance of a few HSTCXO models constructed on the previous contract appears to be less than 5pp 10 to the 10th power. Author
