Effect of a Low Impermeable Groin on Shorezone Geometry and Texture, Point Mugu, California.
Abstract:
The study analyzes the day-to-day effect of a low impermeable groin on the geometry and texture of the adjacent shorezone. Two 475-feet long profiles were established parallel with the experimental groin near Point Mugu, California, one profile upcoast, the other downcoast. Elevations and sediment samples were obtained daily at 25-feet intervals along these profiles over 128 days. Selected sediment samples were laboratory processed for textural parameters. Elevation, mean grain size, and sorting data were subjected to careful scrutiny and to various statistical techniques. The data were also correlated with energy variables, specifically wave and current parameters, measured over the observation period. During this time, the longshore current flowed upcoast for 90 days and downcoast for 38 days. Modified author abstract
