Abstract:

The essay examines the successes and failures of the pacification effort as an effective counterinsurgency method. Binh Duong Province, Republic of Vietnam, was selected as the vehicle because of its unique similarity to South Vietnam. Addressing organization, the advisors roles and concepts, the evaluation determines that pacification can succeed under conditions where the Vietnamese people feel that the government of South Vietnam, not the US government, is providing the security and the means for them to live in peace.
