Analytic Modeling of the Radar Scattering Characteristics of Aircraft.
Abstract:
The report investigates the electromagnetic radar scattering parameters for a complex airborne target at high frequencies. The components of the target are modeled by simple geometrical shapes, which include ellipsoids, elliptical plates, and semi-infinite cylinders with proper terminations located a finite distance from the opening end. The back-scattered fields from ellipsoids, elliptical plates, and semi-infinite elliptical cylinders are derived by using ray-optical methods. The back-scattered fields from the semi-infinite cylinder with terminations are obtained by employing the Wiener-Hopf techniques and Generalized Scattering Matrix method. These back-scattered fields from individual components are subsequently combined in a consistent manner that takes into consideration the geometrical phase delay and shadowing effect, thus, yielding the total scattered field from the target.
